Terence C. Fogarty

I'm Chairman of EvoNet?, the European Network of Excellence in Evolutionary Computing, and Director of the Institute for Computing
Research at LSBU.

After completing his PhD at Bristol Polytechnic in 1990, describing the use of the genetic algorithms to adapt a rule-based controller for the
optimisation of combustion in multiple burner installations for British Steel, Prof. Fogarty has gone on to lead research on applications of
Evolutionary Computing to control and communication problems funded by UK and EU research agencies and industry.

Industrial collaborators include British Steel, TSB Bank, RMS (Controls), Sainsbury, Hawlett Packard, and British Telecom. He now
chairs EvoNet?, the European Network of Excellence in Evolutionary Computing, which has been funded for last 7 years by EU and is the
Director of London South Bank University's Institute for Computing Research.

He has edited 10 books and written 17 book chapters, 19 journal papers and over 50 refereed conference papers on Evolutionary Computing.

Network Interests
I'm interested in generative art and design using the ACE methodology to support individuals and groups creating literature in the style of
OuLiPo? with applications in creative writing, education, game design and marketing. The ACE (Automatic Concept Evolver) methodology uses a human based genetic algorithm to aid creativity in business and the arts. OuLiPo? involves writers, logicians and mathematicians whose primary
objective is to create text under self-imposed constraints which they believe stimulates creativity and imagination.
